Maruti Suzuki Accelerates EV Plans with 25,000 Charging Stations Across India

Maruti Suzuki India is in active discussions with energy companies and oil marketing companies (OMCs) to establish a robust EV charging ecosystem, addressing one of the biggest barriers to faster adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in India.

As the nation embraces the transition to electric vehicles, automakers are competing to capture a share of this growing market. In line with this, Maruti Suzuki is set to establish approximately 25,000 EV charging stations in preparation for the launch of its first electric SUV, the Concept eVX, which was first unveiled at Auto Expo 2023. The midsize SUV is expected to hit the Indian market by next year.

According to sources reported by ET, Maruti Suzuki’s discussions with energy and OMCs are aimed at developing a nationwide charging infrastructure. This initiative is crucial to overcoming one of the key hurdles in India’s EV adoption journey—limited access to reliable charging stations.

In addition to these discussions, Maruti has begun surveying its dealer workshops to identify potential locations for the charging points. Inc42 reports that the company plans to allocate at least one dedicated charging bay and two charge points at each of its service centers. To ensure smooth operations, Maruti Suzuki has already started training service mechanics in Bengaluru to handle EVs efficiently.
