Next Hydrogen Completes GEN2 Electrolysis Cell Durability Test, Ready for Commercial Deployment

Next Hydrogen has successfully concluded an extended durability test of its GEN2 electrolysis cells, designed for green hydrogen production. The GEN2 cells showed minimal degradation during intermittent operation, following widely accepted testing protocols. Surpassing 3,000 hours of cyclic testing, the company confirmed the cells’ commercial readiness.

Raveel Afzaal, President and CEO of Next Hydrogen, stated, “This milestone paves the way for product commercialization. We are also expanding our product line and plan to launch a larger, more efficient GEN3 model in 2025, building on the success of GEN2.”

The GEN2 cells will be integrated into Next Hydrogen’s modular product range, available in 0.75 MW, 1.5 MW, and 2.25 MW sizes.

In October 2023, the company reported achieving top-tier efficiency with GEN2 cells, operating at less than 1.9 V per cell at 1 amp/cm² and 70°C—exceeding US Department of Energy (DOE) energy efficiency targets. With a 10% turn-down rate and best-in-class performance, the GEN2 system is optimized for direct renewable energy integration in green hydrogen production.
